Daniel Martin Caballero, of Houston, enlisted in the Navy three years ago. His mother, Carmen, said she thought her son would never have to go into combat, "but that didn't mean the war wasn't going to come to us."
Caballero, age 21, an electrical technician, had been at the Pentagon for two years. He worked in the video telecommunications department, but was to be transferred to a ship in December.
"His co-worker that survived said my son and his other friend were on their way to set up a teleconference when the plane hit," his mother said. "That's the last we know of him." She said her son became interested in the military at the end of high school. "He was very sure this was what he wanted to do," she said. "His dream was to become an electrical engineer. He was moving up. We thought about the dangers. But we always had faith he was going to be OK."
