Betty Louise Butler was born near Pittsburgh, PA on February 24, 1940 to Louise and Charles Butler. She was the second of two children. She died at home in Kingwood, TX on May 20, 1997 from complications of metastatic breast cancer of the bone. She is survived by her husband Ed Watson, daughter and son-in-law Annette and Christopher Gaas of Sugar Land, TX, son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Richard, Alix and Sterling Watson of Walnut Creek, CA, son and daughter- in-law Michael and Stephanie Watson of Humble TX, her mother and step-father, Louise and Horace Waters of Port Charlotte, FL and her brother Bob Butler of Tampa, FL and his wife Sue and their daughters Traci and Jill.

Betty grew up in Oakmont, PA and graduated from Oakmont High School in 1958. She then attended Muskingum College in New Concord, OH attaining a B.A. in Sociology in 1962. Shortly after graduating, she married Ed Watson and then worked for three years in Child Welfare, specializing in foster home placements and adoptions. By the time Ed left graduate school at the University of Illinois in 1965, she was 5 months pregnant. During their near 35 years of marriage, they lived variously in Ohio, Illinois, in Texas twice, in England twice, San Diego, Pittsburgh, and Denver.
