Capt. Frank J. Callahan, age 51 of Bloomingburg & Breezy Point, NY, died heroically on September 11, 2001 in the World Trade Center terrorist attack. He was a 28-year veteran of New York City Fire Department who gave his life with over 300 of his brother firefighters during the attack on the World Trade Center.
The son of the late Frank and Edna Callahan, he was born on February 9, 1950 in Brooklyn. Frank served as a firefighter in Ladder 111, Ladder 106 and Ladder 105 in Brooklyn. He served as a lieutenant in Ladder 34 in Washington Heights. He was captain of Ladder 35 in Manhattan.
He is survived by his wife, Angela (nee Lang); two sons, Harry (23) and Peter (16); two daughters, Nora (20), and Rose (13); aunt, Marie Schemeltz; nephew, Matthew Byrne and cousins, Linda, Hatzelhoffer, Robert Schmeltz, Joan Fusaro and Beatrice Doyle. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol Byrne.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 Monday, Dec. 10, at Alice Tully Hall, Broadway and 65st. St. Manhattan.
