Zachary Jones, 16, died on Friday, May 12, 2006. A treasured son, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, Zach was born on April 29, 1990 to Larry Jones and Connie Hays Jones of Humble, Texas.
Zach excelled as a 10th grader at Humble High School and enjoyed football, track, reading, music and playing his new guitar. Zach looked forward every spring to swimming for the Walden Waves, his favorite event being the butterfly. He played defensive back for the Humble High School Wildcats and was recently invited to join the National Honor Society. Zach loved science and math and hoped ultimately to attend Baylor Medical School – but only after he traveled around the world.
Zach was a beautiful son, a true friend and a sensitive and caring gentleman. He was known for his willingness and ability to comfort and assist friends or loved ones. His was a kind and compassionate soul.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Sarah Martin Hays. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Connie, grandparents Tom and Betty Jones of Peterstown, WV and Bob and Kay Hays of Alice, TX; aunts and uncles Marshall and Pat Jones of North East, MD; Mike and Sue Jones of Rich Creek, VA; Bill and Jane Kersey of Peterstown, WV; Tony and Tommie Noble of Peterstown, WV; Rick and Sharon Jones of Charleston, WV; Tim and Cathy Jones of Peterstown, WV; Steve and Sherry Baker of Peterstown, WV; Donnie and Melissa Evans of Peterstown, WV; Cheri Perez, and Mike and Kim Quinney, and many cousins, and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 15 at Rosewood Funeral Home at 2602 Old Humble Road in Humble from 6:00 – 9:00pm. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 am Tuesday, May 16 at Kingwood United Methodist Church at 1799 Woodland Hills in Kingwood with Reverend Tom Stephenson and Reverend Carolyn McCall officiating. Kirk Munden, Jim Snow, Tom Dayton, Nick Nicholson, Dave Kotowych, and Ron Hoffpauir will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be friends of Zach, Larry, and Connie.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Zach Jones Memorial Fund which will ultimately create a scholarship in Zach’s name. Donations can be made at any Wachovia Bank branch.
